Current Volunteer Opportunities: Veterinary Coordinator
Adoptables Program at Tecumseh State Correctional Institution
Domesti-PUPS is a unique organization that has a breeding program (for service work) and a rescue program. We support both endeavors. In our Adoptables program we provide educational programming for inmate handlers in the prison facility, acquire dogs from shelters and rescue organizations, and teach the handlers to provide basic obedience training for these dogs with the goal of making them more adoptable to their forever loving homes. If interested in this position, click the button below and complete the form using "Adoptables" as the program selection. Veterinary Coordinator
This position is responsible for transporting dogs from TSCI (Tecumseh, Nebraska) to the vet when needed. Maintenance of veterinary files for each dog in the program.
Tasks
Setting
The majority of this position is driving to and from veterinary appointments or recruiting individuals to assist in driving as needed.
Schedule
Most dogs coming from a rescue or shelter will have been evaluated by a veterinarian and are cleared medically. When dogs are procured from a private party the medical information will be available and any needed veterinarian care will have been identified in advance.
At times medical situations occur real time, such as an injured foot or ear infection. At these times this person along with the staff at TSCI will determine how critical the injury or illness is and if veterinary care is needed. If needed, they will assess how soon and make the appropriate arrangements.
Because the nature of this position it is hard to determine when attention will be needed. Transportation can be handled by this individual or scheduled with another volunteer.
Training

Candidates to attend volunteer orientation through the Nebraska Department of Corrections annually.
