Adoption process
When it has been determined that a dog or puppy on the service path will be up for adoption as a pet, the leadership team will notify the adoption coordinator (currently Natalie Wimer). The adoption coordinator will reach out to the dog’s puppy raiser with first option to adopt the dog. The puppy raiser will have 24 hours to decide if they wish to adopt. Only the puppy raiser will have this option, not family or friends. If the puppy raiser declines, the adoption coordinator will have the photo and bio of the dog posted on the Domesti-PUPS website under adoptions and will contact people on the waiting list. If you wish to be considered for a dog that Domesti-PUPS may put up for adoption, please fill out the adoption form now to get on the waiting list. They have priority for adoptions. Considerations are given for the temperament or behavior of the dog. For example, if the dog does not do well with cats, we will not contact those people who have a cat. If there is not an adopter from the waiting list, the adoption coordinator will advertise the dog(s) on Facebook. At this point, anyone can fill out an adoption form, and people will be contacted in the order they are received. Each person will have 24 hours to respond and setup a time to meet the dog.
Dogs up for adoption from the Domesti-PUPS Adoptables Program will be posted to the website while they are in training, with the date the dog will be available. People on the waitlist will be contacted first, then the dog will be posted on Facebook. At this point, anyone can fill out an adoption form, and people will be contacted in the order they are received. Each person will have 24 hours to respond and setup a time to meet the dog.
