DOMESTI-PUPS ADOPTION PROCESS

Dogs available on this page are PETS and not service animals or therapy dogs.

Adoption Waitlist

All dogs posted for adoption are strictly for companionship only and CANNOT serve as service dogs.  They will be offered to our existing wait list before they are publicly posted on our website/Facebook. If you wish to be considered for a dog that Domesti-PUPS may put up for adoption, please fill out the adoption form now to get on the waiting list. Prices will vary due to levels of training.  Again, these dogs cannot serve as Service Dogs and are strictly for companionship.

WHEN A DOG BECOMES AVAILABLE:
  • Considerations are given for the temperament or behavior of the dog.  (For example, if the dog does not do well with cats, we will not contact those people who have a cat, etc).
  • An email will be sent to individuals on the wait list who have expressed an interest in the breed available.
  • Each person who received the email will be given 24 hours to respond that they are interested. The coordinator will reach out in the order on the wait list to set up a time to meet the dog. If we do not receive a response from the applicant, the adoption coordinator will move on to the next person on the list.

TSCI Adoptables

Domesti-PUPS is partnered with the  the Tecumseh State Correctional Institution (TSCI), to provide vocational training programs for inmates. In this program we pull dogs from local shelters or private rehoming situations and provide them with 12 weeks of obedience training. The adoptable dog's training begins in this  facility, and then continues in the community and your home to help make your relationship successful.

WHEN A NEW ROTATION OF DOGS START:
  • The dogs will be posted on our website/social media along with the date they are available
  • An email will be sent to our wait list and they will be given first priority
  • If the dog is still available, applications will be reviewed in the order they were received  (special considerations are made for temperament, etc.)
  • Each application will have 24 hours to respond and set up a time to meet the dog

CAREER CHANGE DOGS

When it has been determined that a dog or puppy on the service path will be up for adoption as a pet, the leadership team will notify the adoption coordinator (currently Natalie Wimer).  Domesti-PUPS volunteers who have an adoption form on file will have first option to adopt the dog.  The volunteer will have 24 hours to decide if they wish to adopt.  If the volunteer declines, the adoption coordinator will contact people on the wait list.  If there are no interested people on the wait list, the photo and bio of the dog will be posted on the Domesti-PUPS website under adoptions.

*Please note only vlounteer has first option of adopting the dog. Family/Friends of the volunteer are treated the same way as other potential
adopters

PUPPIES

From time to time we do have puppies available for adoption. Unfortunately not every dog can go on to become a service dog.  These are dogs that have been determined not to be service dog candidates but will make wonderful pets or maybe even therapy candidates!
