Adoptables Program at Tecumseh State Correctional Institution
Domesti-PUPS is a unique organization that has a breeding program (for service work) and a rescue program. We support both endeavors. In our Adoptables program we provide educational programming for inmate handlers in the prison facility, acquire dogs from shelters and rescue organizations, and teach the handlers to provide basic obedience training for these dogs with the goal of making them more adoptable to their forever loving homes. Canine Acquisition Coordinator
Canine acquisition coordinator will build relationships with animal shelters and rescues, promote the adoption program at TSCI and understand the contract between the different agencies and Domesti-PUPS. The volunteer will find and acquire dogs for the TSCI adoptables program.

Setting
There will be travel involved in this position. Establishing and visiting area rescues and shelters on a regular basis. Transporting dogs each quarter to TSCI.
Attend meetings either online or at the Domesti-PUPS building.
While there is no dedicated uniform it is suggested that you wear a Domesti-PUPS T-shirt when representing the organization.
Schedule
The goal is to graduate dogs from the program every 14 weeks. With each graduation there will be a need to bring in a new class of dogs (number TBD).
Finding and selecting dogs can take on average 10 – 15 hours a month, depending on the availablility of dogs at any given time.
Transporting the dogs is dependent on where the dogs are located. There are transport Facebook groups, and private individuals who organize transports that can be utilized. The training facility is located in Tecumseh, NE.

Candidates to attend volunteer orientation through the Nebraska Department of Corrections annually.

Tasks
- Acquire dogs utilizing the Domesti-PUPS guidelines for selecting appropriate dogs for the TSCI adoptable program
- Be responsible for transporting, assist, or assign individuals to transport dogs from the original destination to TSCI or temporary foster homes.
- Communicate and work closely with other volunteers
- Enter all previous medical information onto the Domesti-PUPS Google drive after acquiring new dogs.
- Enter canine information regarding skills, behaviors etc in the Domesti-PUPS Google drive.
- Promote Domesti-PUPS in the community
- Establish a working relationship with rescues and shelters in the surrounding areas
- Attend other meetings with TSCI volunteers either online or in person as needed.
- This position is subject to change as this program and position continue to grow and develop
Skills
- Learn Domesti-PUPS criteria to evaluate dogs
- Possess basic computer skills, including use of email, GOOGLE, and on-line social media. On line work would be done utilizing your own PC
- Ability to build relationships with diverse individuals with different levels of understanding of animal behavior and training
- Ability to communicate sensitively in difficult situations. Explaining why we will or will not take their dog into the program.
- Valid drivers license

- Training is on the job. You will shadow with another volunteer initially.
- Attend an orientation about Domesti-PUPS
- Attend a meet and greet where volunteers will have an opportunity to meet other TSCI volunteers and discuss each individual’s role
- Be provided guidance on how to use the Domesti-PUPS Google drive
